Each year, approximately 95 percent of vehicles and their parts retired from use are processed for recycling. The recycling of these vehicles saves an estimated 85 million barrels of oil that would have been used in the manufacturing of new or replacement parts. Motor oil may also be processed and turned into new oil.

Tips for Recycling Automotive Materials: Never throw motor oil or other automotive fluids on the ground, in the trash or into sewers or drains. These fluids can penetrate the ground water and cause serious environmental damage. Instead, take your fluids to a local auto parts store for recycling.
