Paper
In 2010, Americans recovered 63.5% of U.S. paper — an 89% increase in recovery since 1990. However, we threw away $2.8 billion worth of paper. Producing recycled paper takes 40% less energy than producing paper from virgin wood pulp.

Tips for Recycling Paper:

  • It is not necessary to remove plastic film from envelopes with windows.
  • It is OK to leave staples in stacks of paper. Please remove rubber bands.
  • Soft-back books, books with stapled binding and phone books are fully recyclable. Spiral-bound books must have the plastic removed prior to recycling.
